The question everybody asks first

How do I survive
sitting that long?

That is close to word for word what people ask before booking microlocs, and it is a fair question. Here is what they are actually afraid of.

Microlocs are a ten year commitment that starts with the longest appointment of your life. Getting the first two days wrong is expensive in a way a retwist never is. Hundreds of sections, all parted at once, and you live with those parts for as long as you keep the set.

What the two days are for

Two days, and I take
nobody else in them.

Installing hundreds of locs by hand takes this long and there is no honest way to shorten it. What I can do is block both days for you and put nobody else in the chair, which is the whole reason it fits into two.

Day one

Parting and starting

We talk through what you want, then I section your hair. The parting decides how the whole set looks for the next several years, so most of day one goes here. Then I start installing.

Day two

Finishing and settling

I finish the install and tidy the parts. Before you leave I show you how to wash them, how to tie them at night, and what the first month should look like.

Your two days

I need two long days back to back, and there are only three of those in my week. These are the start days the calendar will offer you.

Come on day one with clean, dry, detangled hair. I start with the parting, not with a wash, so an hour spent untangling on the first morning is an hour taken off the part you live with for years.

Eat before you come and bring something to watch. Both days are long, and pretending otherwise would not help you.

Prices

What puts you at $550,
and what puts you at $1000.

Density. More hair means more locs, and more locs means more hours in the chair. Two people with hair the same length can be a few hundred dollars apart because one of them has twice as much of it.

Text me a photo before you book and I will tell you where you land. There is no consultation fee for that.

A photo is not the same as seeing your hair in person, so treat that figure as close rather than final. If yours turns out denser than it looked, I will stop and tell you what that changes before I carry on. You will not find out at the end, and you will not find out while you are paying.

Microlocs starter $550 to $1000

The range is about your hair, not about me. More density means more locs, and more locs means more hours. Thin to medium hair lands near the bottom, very full hair near the top.

Microlocs with extensions $950 to $1400

Added hair for length or thickness on day one. Pick this if you do not want to wait out the short phase.

Microlocs retie $150

Your maintenance once they are in, every six to eight weeks. This is the number that matters long term, so look at it before the install price.

A $50 deposit books your two days and comes off your final price. It is not refundable and it does not move to another booking, so please pick dates you are confident you can keep.

Microlocs or regular locs

How to choose.

Choose microlocs if

  • You want a lot of styling options
  • You want a ponytail that actually works
  • You like a soft look that moves
  • You can commit two days up front

Choose regular locs if

  • You want a much lower price
  • You want a four hour first appointment, not two days
  • You want quicker, cheaper maintenance visits

If you are not sure, book starter locs. Going small later is easy. Coming back from a set you did not want is not.

Keeping them

What the next ten
years look like.

My one promise

If it feels tight, I take it out.

Not at the end of day two. The moment you say it. I will undo that section and redo it looser, at no charge and with no sighing. On a set of hundreds of small locs, tension is the only thing that can undo two days of work, and I am not risking your hairline to save myself twenty minutes.

Straight answers

Microloc questions.

Why does it take two days, and why not more?

Every loc is done by hand, and there are hundreds. Two days is the honest amount of time. It fits into two rather than three or four because I do not take another client inside those days, so nothing gets pushed.

Why is the price a range and not one number?

Because it follows your hair density. Text me a photo before you book and you will get one number instead of the range, at no charge.

Will microlocs damage my hair?

Not at the right tension. Small locs are less forgiving at the root than big ones, so tension matters more here than anywhere else. If it hurts while I am working, say so and I will redo that section looser.

How long do microlocs last?

Years, with regular reties. Many people keep the same set for a decade or more.

What does it actually cost me per year?

After the install, six or seven reties at $150. Look at that number before you look at the install price, because it is the one you live with.

Can I get length right away?

Yes, with extensions. That is the $950 to $1400 option.

How should I come on day one?

With clean, detangled hair. Washed, dried, and combed out, with no heavy product at the root. And on time. On a two day install, an hour lost to tangles on the first morning is an hour taken off the parting, which is the part you live with for years.

Do I have to take two days off work?

Two full days, yes. Thursday and Friday, Friday and Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday, so for most people it costs one or two working days rather than two.

What is the deposit?

$50. It comes off your final price. It is not refundable and it stays with the dates you booked, so if you cancel or move them, booking again takes a new deposit. Two days is a large piece of my week to hold, which is why.

Do you do microlocs on children?

Yes, but talk to me first. Two days is a long time for a child to sit, and the maintenance is real. Sometimes bigger traditional locs are the kinder answer, and I will say so if I think that.

Book your two days.

Here is exactly what happens next.
