Meet your loctician

Hi, I am Afua.

I have been doing locs for five years, and locs are all I do. Microlocs, micro-interloc extensions, dreadlocks, and traditional locs, at my Black owned salon in Vaudreuil-Dorion. Men, women, and children.

I specialize in locs because I wanted to make a real contribution to the loc community, and to help change the way locs get talked about. I also want you to feel confident and proud of your hair, and that comes down to quality care and the time to do it properly.

What I hope to build here is a welcoming space. Somewhere you can embrace your loc journey, receive professional care, and feel valued every step of the way.

The name

What Sankofa means.

Sankofa is an Akan word. It means go back and get what you left behind. It is drawn as a bird turning its head backward to pick up an egg.

Locs are the same idea in hair. They are an older way of wearing it, and they reward patience more than they reward speed. That is also the way I work.

It is also why I only do this. Textured hair is not a specialty I added on to a general salon, it is the whole practice. Every chair in a Black hair salon should be one where nobody has to explain their own hair first, and that is the standard I am holding this one to.

How I work

Four things, and I hold
myself to all of them.

You should leave with hair you are proud of, and you should never feel like you did me a favour by sitting in my chair for six hours. These four are how I make sure of both.

Your scalp will not be sore

I tie loose. If it hurts while I am working, it is too tight, so say so and I will take it out and do it again. Sore for a week is not the price of neat locs.

You leave finished

I do not book two heads into the same afternoon. Your appointment is the whole appointment, and nobody else gets put in the chair halfway through it.

You know the price first

Every price is on this site and there is no consultation fee. Send me a photo and I will give you a figure. If your hair turns out to need more than that, you hear it from me before I carry on, never when you are paying.

You get the honest answer

If what you want will not work on your hair, I will say so before we start, not after you have paid. Sometimes that costs me the booking. I would rather that than fix it later.

Where to find me
